Have you been published before?
Not previously. I've written some fan fiction, but those don't technically count.
Do you have an agent?
I do not. I'll more than likely seek representation someday, though.
Do you have a degree?
I have a technical degree in graphic design.
So did you design your site's logo?
Yes I did. :)
Why/how did you decide to become a writer?
I've been telling stories ever since I was really young, so it's something I've been doing for quite a long time now. For a while, people had me convinced that making a living from it was impossible, so I pursued other interests. After silly aspirations of being in an awesome rock band fell through, I moved on to my next interest: graphic design. Ignoring my passion for writing was worsening my depression, so I finally came to terms with myself and decided to seek out my longtime dream of becoming an author.
You were in a band?
Not officially; since it was during high school, it panned out to nothing more than a pipe dream. I taught myself how to play bass guitar, which was pretty cool. I've forgotten a lot of it since, though. Maybe I'll pick the instrument back up again someday.
Have any advice for an aspiring author?
Read as much as you can, write as much as you can. And most importantly—NEVER GIVE UP! And don't let anyone stomp on your dreams and allow them to convince you that they're not worth it.
Where do you get your ideas for your stories?
Lots of places. They can come anywhere, and at any time. Inspiration usually strikes when you least expect it to. In other words, I just kinda go with it and record my ideas for future use. Later on, they may transform into something much larger.
Are your characters based on real people?
Not really. Some of their traits may or may not be inspired by those I know, but my characters are definitely their own people.
Can you read my manuscript?
I'm typically pretty busy with my own work, so I'm afraid I cannot. I also can't because of legal reasons.
How do I get published?
Wow, that's a loaded question. There are plenty of resources to be found on the Internet—so many that it would take an eternity for me to list them all here. One piece of advice, though: RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH. And you also have to remember that every author's journey is different; don't compare yourself to how someone else got there.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Anne Rice, Melissa Marr, Cassandra Clare, Leigh Bardugo, Stephen King, Mark Lawrence, George R.R. Martin.
What is your stance on fan fiction?
Seeing as I've written a fair share of my own, I'm not against it. But for legal reasons, I can't read any based on my own work—so please don't send me any! I would find it flattering if someone took the time to write about my world and characters, though.
Have any hobbies?
Aside from reading, I love to listen to music and play video games. Sadly, I haven't had as much time to do the latter for a while; my stack of unfinished games can attest to this. I also love to study Ancient Chinese history and I'm a trivia nerd as well.
What kind of music do you like?
A lot! Genre-wise, I tend to listen to hard rock/metal, Asian pop music and classical (including soundtracks to video games, etc.)
Know any languages other than English?
I studied Japanese when I was younger because I found the culture fascinating and their media entertaining. In terms of my skill, I'm pretty rusty now. My pronunciation is still decent, though.
Where are you from?
The state of Pennsylvania in the United States. Currently, I reside in the Steel City (or, as I like to call it, Gotham City :D).
Do you have an accent?
Kind of. I'm actually from further up north in the state, but I've adapted a slight accent from living in Pittsburgh since I graduated from high school. It's not really heavy, though, so don't expect me to use much of the dialect's slang! *laughs*
There are some religious themes/references in your work. Are you religious yourself?
I study religion, but do not actively practice any.
How many books do you have planned for the TALMASSA CHRONICLES?
As of this writing, three full-length novels, two novellas, and possibly some short spin-offs.
Have any other series planned?
I've been working on many other stories, but am not quite ready to announce them yet. Please be patient and look forward to them in time. ;)
Do you have any character types you like to write?
Anti-villains and anti-heroes are my favorites because of how complex they are compared to the hero/villain archetypes. I love "gray morality" characters in general, honestly.
How do I go about getting an ARC?
